Calling all budding biologists! The Hobart City Council’s Bush Adventures summer program for 5 – 7 year olds is filled with fun events for curious kids:

Knights in Armour –Mon 19 Jan & Wed 28 Jan, 10-11.30am

What do insects, spiders, crabs and crayfish have in common? Why do they need special armour? Come with us to find armoured beasts in the bush and create your own bush knight to take home.

Meet: Knocklofty Reserve, gravel carpark at top end of Forest Road, West Hobart

Watch Out for Waterbugs – Fri 23 Jan & Sat 31 Jan, 1.30-3pm

Take a look into the sparkling world of water; there are thousands of bugs out there! Catch some, test out your identification skills and explore what these little creatures might grow up to be, then create your own wonderful waterbug to take home.

Meet: New Town Rivulet, far end of Lenah Valley Rd, Lenah Valley (look for our flag)

Little Devils – Thu 22 Jan & Thu 29 Jan, 10-11.30am

Growling, scowling, galloping imps, our little devils are full of personality and even the shy ones can get a tourist’s heart racing. We’ll do devilish things, play devilish games and find out why these funny fellows are having such a devil of a time.

Meet: Waterworks Reserve, Site 9, Waterworks Rd, Ridgeway

Mask Making at Beaumaris Zoo – Fri 30 Jan & Sat 14 Feb, 10-11.30am

Once upon a time there lived an elephant, a lion and a polar bear right here in Hobart! We will explore the Beaumaris Zoo from antelopes to zebras, and then you can turn yourself into one of these amazing animals by creating an animal mask to take home.

Meet: Gates to Beaumaris Zoo, Lower Domain Rd, Queens Domain

These events are for children aged 2 – 5 years- children must be accompanied by an adult.

Activities may be cancelled in the event of unsuitable weather conditions (such as severe fire danger) or unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs a refund or credit will be given. For all activities please bring a drink and wear suitable clothing, solid shoes, a hat and sunscreen.
