Bush Adventures for 7 – 10 year olds

Calling all budding biologists! The Hobart City Council’s Bush Adventures summer program for 7 – 10 year olds is filled with fun events for curious kids:
Whale of a Time – Thu 22 Jan, 1.30-3pm & Tue 27 Jan, 10-11.30am
Which whales visit the Derwent Estuary? Would they eat me? What should I do if I find a beached whale? We will have a whale of a time playing games and then finish off by crafting a life-sized whale sand sculpture.
Meet: Nutgrove Beach carpark, end of Long Point Rd (near Sandy Bay Sailing Club), Sandy Bay
Life Between the Tides – Tue 20 Jan & Sun 1 Feb, 1.30-3pm
Who looks pretty but can be deadly even to humans? Who eats by putting their stomach out through their mouth? Some animals living in rockpools can, and we will see how many of these weird and wonderful animals we can find on this rockpool ramble.
Meet: Long Beach carpark, Beach Rd off Sandy Bay Rd, Sandy Bay
Spectacular Spiders – Mon 19 Jan & Wed 28 Jan, 1.30-3pm
How do spiders live for so long without eating? Why don’t spiders get caught in their own webs? When is a spider an ant? Come on a discovery tour of the intriguing world of spiders and make your own spider to take home.
Meet: Knocklofty Reserve, gravel carpark at top end of Forest Road, West Hobart
Camouflage Games – Tue 27 Jan & Sat 14 Feb, 1.30-3pm
Could you hide from a fierce predator? Could you blend into the bush? Become a camouflage expert and learn why our local animals need their crazy coloured coats. Don’t forget to wear your best camouflage outfit, one that can get a little bit dirty.
