Growing Healthy Hearts

Presented by Dr Costan Magnussen.
Although typically considered diseases of middle or older age, the initial stages of heart disease begin in childhood. This presentation will overview some of Dr Magnussen’s research findings on the role of early-life exposure to passive smoking, elevated blood pressure, and high adiposity on heart disease and diabetes later in life.
Dr Magnussen, BHM (Hons) 2002, PhD (Epidemiology) 2009, is a Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research. His research has focused on the importance of early-life factors for later development of heart disease and diabetes, and helped establish a major international consortium examining the childhood origins of adult cardiovascular disease.
