Memento Mori is a medically-themed exhibition which has been developed through a creative collaboration between artist Lauren Black, The R.A. Rodda Museum of Pathology at University of Tasmania and the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts.
The exhibition features original artworks, including a series of adventurous anatomical drawings investigating the intrigue of the human body and disease. These, and other works developed during Lauren’s recent arts residency in Penang—which focused on Chinese medical halls and the early medical practices of the island—will be exhibited alongside rare historical medical objects from the collections of the W.L. Crowther Library and the R.A. Rodda Museum of Pathology.
ARTIST TALK – Lauren Black
Lauren Black is delighted to offer an illustrated talk on the inspiration behind Memento Mori. An insight into the exhibition’s development, her work from the R.A Rodda museum of Pathology, and Chinese medicine in Penang, Malaysia, will be presented.
