Native bees in production landscapes: do they have a role in Tasmania?

Presented by the University of Tasmania’s  School of Land and Food.

We need bees to pollinate our crops and plants, but here in Tasmania we’re starting to panic about declining bee populations. Ecology, economics and a changing environment all play a part. It appears Tasmania has a variety of native bees able to cope with current land use practices. Dr Peter McQuillan is interested to learn more about where these bees live, what resources they use to maintain their populations, and how we might help them do their job as pollinators.
Dr McQuillan is a graduate of the Waite Institute at the University of Adelaide and worked as an entomologist in South Australian and Tasmania before joining UTAS. His research interests include the taxonomy, ecology, biogeography and conservation of invertebrates.
