Secrets of the Intertidal Zone (East Beach, Low Head)
Learn about the intertidal zone and the creatures that call it home. Experts and professional scientists will help you explore this environment and the plants and animals that have adapted in order to live there. There are activities for all ages including: Identifying species and zonation; tides, currents, waves and rain; and finding the hard-to-find species. Be prepared to fossick in rock pools, roll rocks, sieve sand and build sand castles.

Reptiles of Our Region (Queen Victoria Museum)
Come and meet some of Tasmania’s snakes and lizards. Our experts will have live animals on show,
and you will be able to handle some of the safe ones! There will be lots of interesting facts about reptiles in the wild and how to keep reptiles as pets. There will be activities designed to suit all ages.

Spiders and Insects (Skemps Property, Myrttle Bank)
A fun-filled day with the Launceston Field Naturalist Club finding insects and spiders, and spotting echidnas, crayfish, eagles and bandicoots. Our experts will help collect and identify insects and spiders, and you can learn how to keep them alive. Study invertebrates under the microscope; make a butterfly net; and learn about insect pinning, scientific illustration and painting insect portraits.
