Tasmanian Science and Engineering Challenge 2013
The Science and Engineering Challenge is an outreach program heading into its ninth year in Tasmania.  Students will engage in a number of fun and competitive activities  involving principles of science, engineering and technology. They are encouraged to explore scientific principles for themselves rather than being guided to a predetermined answer.
We extend an invitation to register your school to participate in the Challenge in 2013. http://www.utas.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/342616/Science_and_Engineering_Challenge_Registration_form_2013.pdf
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-in basis. More information on the Challenge can be found at: http://www.utas.edu.au/science-engineering-technology/quick-links/resources-for-teachers/resources-for-teachers-content/tasmanian-challenge
Please note, the Challenge is being held earlier this year than in the past, to accommodate the four term year. So there is very little time to organise. Please send in your registrations ASAP.
The 2013 Tasmanian Challenge Series will be held on the following dates in these regions:

  •  NW (Devonport): 8 & 9 April …. at Reece High School
  • Launceston: 11 & 12 April ….. at Launceston Christian School
  • Hobart: 16, 17 &  18 April …. at UTas Sandy Bay Campus
  •  Super Challenge Hobart,  9th May 2013 …. at UTas Sandy Bay Campus

Participating schools select their representative teams of up to 32 students from Years 9 and 10. (Note not 40 as in the past.)
PLEASE NOTE: for smaller schools who are unable to meet the 24 student minimum, you are encouraged to combine teams with other small schools so as not to miss out!
We welcome combined entries from smaller schools, which we will help facilitate if required. If you have 12 to 20 students, please indicate the likely number of students when you register. If you have made arrangements to combine with another school, please include this information on the registration form.
Entry to the Tasmanian Challenge Series is free due to the generous financial support from the University of Tasmania, DIISRTE Inspiring Australia and the Tasmanian Education Department. The Challenge in Tasmania is also supported by Engineers Australia (Tasmania Division) and Rotary International clubs (in Hobart, Launceston and North West Tasmania), in collaboration with the University of Newcastle.
If you would like any further information about the Challenge in Tasmania, please feel free to contact Susie Haley (Susie.Haley@utas.edu.au; 6226 7868) at the University of Tasmania.
On behalf of the Tasmanian Organising Committee, we look forward to seeing your school participate in 2013.
Yours sincerely,
